I know times are tough right now, but Mission:Libre's existence is contingent on your support.

Mission:Libre's projected budget for the first year is only US$58,500. This covers:

  • A salary for one person at no more than the New Zealand Living Minimum Wage + 20%;
  • Hosting for Mission:Libre's websites and online services;
  • Other expenses typical of small businesses: filing fees, stationery, levies, insurance, etc.

If you think Mission:Libre has as much to offer free software as I do, please, consider making a donation.

About Mission:Libre Limited

Mission:Libre's funds are held by Mission:Libre Limited, a New Zealand registered company.

Mission:Libre Limited is entirely not-for-profit, but it is not a registered charity. Mission:Libre is unlikely to be eligible for charitable status in New Zealand. New Zealand charities are required to do most of their work within the country and are restricted in how much they can advocate for their particular positions. This is incompatible with Mission:Libre's goals: the vast majority of people interested in being part of Mission:Libre will be outside New Zealand and advocacy will be a part of everything Mission:Libre does!

Accountability

Mission:Libre may not be a registered charity, but I've chosen to adopt many of the same restrictions charitable companies in New Zealand work under. Specifically, Mission:Libre will be adopting a constitution that:

  • Denies anyone the right to Mission:Libre's assets or any dividends;
  • Requires Mission:Libre's assets to be used for the good of free software; and,
  • Requires any assets left over when Mission:Libre is liquidated to be passed on to other free software non-profits.

It's important to me you know I'm using Mission:Libre's funds appropriately. Each year, I'll be publishing a report telling you exactly what Mission:Libre achieved and what was spent.

I welcome tough questions. I'm always happy to chat over e-mail at carmen@missionlibre.org
